Oscar Musings

Just some thoughts, which will be filled with pictures later...

Marissa Tomei's dress is the ultimate in origami-pleated-light-coloured-satin.

Sarah Jessica Parker's dress is beautiful, but I'm not a huge fan of the hair.

Natalie Portman is one of my ultimate girl crushes, but there's something about her look that doesn't sit too well with me...I think it's her extensive use of self-tanner combined with the hot pink (hot pink on its own would not have been bad at all).

There is a lot of red going on.

Diane Lane's dress is not visible to me at the moment, but I love her necklace.

Taraji P. Henson looks phenomenal...her necklace really sets her apart from the crowd.

Also, if anyone saw the interview with the kids from Slumdog Millionaire, how adorable was that?!

Lady In Red

Though it may be a Hallmark-inspired holiday, I do hold a soft spot in my heart for Valentine's Day. Strolling through the local grocery store, listening to "Build Me Up Buttercup" and watching frantic guys purchasing roses and chocolate just reminded me of how fun Valentine's Day can be.

I personally spent the day taking advantage of a glorious 50% off all items sale at a local thrift store, where I purchased an incredibly cute black and white houndstooth skirt for $1.50 and a pretty black pleated clutch purse for $2.50.

I also purchased a set of travel brushes. This is sort of a sad thing to admit, but I really don't have good makeup brushes. I've been wanting the Ecotools set for a while, but I actually ended up getting this Sonia Kashuk travel brush set.

I like the travel size of the brushes, and I'll most likely use them as regular brushes. Plus, they're $14.99 on the site, but I got them for $10.00. Also, the gold brushes are really it bad that I take that into account when getting makeup brushes? I'll try to post a picture of mine, so you can see how big they are.

Finally, I finished the day by making an incredibly delectable set of chocolate covered strawberries with a friend. I won't lie, we did eat a couple fondue-style, but we were able to make some pretty professional-looking ones. It was definitely a very delectable Valentine's Day.

Of course, I did my routine online fashion perusing, and found two lovely red dresses that bring unattainable designer fashion to us mere mortals.

Silk Crepe Cocktail Dress, Versace, $699.50

Textured Suiting Pocket Dress, Zac Posen, $425.00

And for those who like to dream, Valentine's Day should be commemorated by a kitschy pair of black patent pumps.

With a hot pink underside and a heart peep toe. Happy Valentine's Day!
