Promenade Attire, Part Seven In Person

So while a picture of my dress on a mannequin is telling and everything...here's a real-life picture. Please note...I am slightly yellower in this picture because I had to mess with some of the colours so that the picture would give an accurate representation of the dress.

I don't need to hem it, right? I'll probably be wearing higher heels than I am in this picture (not that you can see them...)

Promenade Attire, Part Five

So here's my likely choice for a prom dress:


It may look a little wedding-y, but I love the vintage feel of the dress. The beading and the silhouette make it seem like it's a true evening gown and not simply a frou-frou prom dress. I also love the fact that it was under $200, and I secretly enjoy that it's not from BCBG. However, I could very well end up wearing a BCBG dress if this one doesn't work out, so I shouldn't get too cocky.

It's coming in the mail as I write this, but I'm hoping the size isn't too big for me...the biggest one was 2, and I'm usually a 0, so we shall see.

Promenade Attire, Part Four

The theme for today's post is classic black. Though I promised myself many years ago that I would not wear black, and do not plan to do so at this prom, I love perusing the simple, black styles that may not be the most daring but are always very slimming and classic.


This pretty Tadashi strapless dress has a classic and flattering sweetheart neckline. There isn't much to say about this dress; the flowy, simple style is very expected of evening gowns, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good choice. Though I don't like ankle-length gowns myself, because I'm somewhat of a shortie this would probably be floor-length.


This one-strap dress from Amsale Party has a little extra detail to move it away from typical black column dresses. The little flutter of chiffon on the shoulder makes this dress a little bit high fashion. I would suggest wearing one's hair up with this dress, which is unfortunate for me as I would much rather wear mine down.

Though this velvet gown from David Meister is not exactly black, I felt that it was close enough that it could be featured in this post. It reminds me of nail polish, the kind that looks black normally but then is revealed to be navy blue in direct sunlight. I love this gown; I remember seeing Beyonce in a black velvet sweetheart gown much like this one and loving the plain, classic style of the gown. This gown deserves a beautiful set of earrings and a classic up-do or pretty waves.

Promenade Attire, Part Three

I've really tried to stay away from dresses that fit into the typical "prom" category, like these:

There isn't anything wrong with brightly coloured, satiny, heavily embellished dresses, it's just that for some reason they aren't exactly my style. I'm having an internal debate as to whether I want a cocktail dress or a long dress, but I know for sure that I don't want any sort of calf-length thing (which would make me look ever shorter than I am).



Anyway, what do you guys think of this one? It's on sale for $261 at Saks, which isn't too bad for a prom dress. Plus, it's the type of dress I could re-use for other soirees. The colour's bright for my typical neutral loving self, but I think that the red would work pretty well with my semi tanned skintone and dark hair. Plus, the slim silhouette would work with my small and skinny shape.

Promenade Attire, Part Two

While browsing eluxury's amazing sale, I came upon a beautiful Robert Rodriguez frock. It's probably a bit over-the-top, but it comes in size 0, it's only $189, and it's totally high fashion. Yeah, the ruffles are a bit crazy, and the white + chiffon + flowery stuff might make it a bit too frou-frou and girlie, but this one's definitely going on my list.
